FENNEL

BENEFITS:

Facilitates digestion and helps fight against digestive disorders while limiting feelings of discomfort and heaviness after meals.

DESCRIPTION:

Fennel has antispasmodic and digestive benefits, particularly carminative, which reduce bloating, intestinal gas and abdominal cramps. Indeed, it has a large quantity of fibre as well as athenol, a compound of the phenylpropene family, which helps to reduce digestive disorders.

In addition to its digestive properties, fennel is a good diuretic that prevents water retention. It is also rich in vitamins (vitamin C, K, provitamin A, and vitamin B9) and minerals (potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron) to satisfy your need for these micronutrients.

DID YOU KNOW?

Fennel, meaning "little hay" in Latin, was used as early as Antiquity and was associated with clear vision. Dioscorides and Hippocrates prescribed it for the visually impaired. In the Middle Ages, it was used as an antivenom.

CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS:

Fennel is a potential allergen, so it should be avoided if you are sensitive to athenol (this compound is also present in aniseed and liquorice). Athenol can be toxic in high quantities. You should therefore not exceed 7g of fennel seeds per day. Fennel essential oil is especially not recommended for pregnant women.
