VITAMINE B1

DESCRIPTION:

Vitamin B1, or thiamine, is a water-soluble vitamin. Our bodies store it in very small amounts, with the excess being removed through the urine. Since it doesn’t accumulate within the body, it’s essential to take it in through our daily diet!

ROLE:

Vitamin B1 keeps the nervous system running smoothly and stimulates intellectual function, making it highly effective in keeping up our concentration and memory. It’s also essential to sugar absorption and conversion into usable energy.

    SOURCES:

Vitamin B1 can be found in many food sources, particularly in whole grains, legumes, brewer’s yeast and oilseeds (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, etc.). It’s also found in meat, seafood, seaweed, fish, milk and egg yolks.

    DID YOU KNOW?

This vitamin was discovered in the 19th century following studies of beriberi, a disease that usually causes severe fatigue, significant motor and neurological disorders, and heart failure. Researchers were able to show that this disease is directly linked to a vitamin B1 deficiency!

    SUPPLEMENTS & CONTRAINDICATIONS:

There is no real risk of overdosing on vitamin B1 since it’s not stored by the body. However, excessive intake can have a diuretic effect. Please note that excessive and chronic alcohol consumption results in poor vitamin B1 absorption and is therefore the primary cause of deficiency.
